Christchurch:

The Paddle Steamer Avon was meant for the Lyttelton -Sumner estuary trade and up the Avon river to
Christchurch until the Avon was found to be too  shallow. The other story is that the Avon was
to long for the winding Avon River. She worked then Saltwater Creek and joined the Mullogh and the Planet
in the Lyttelton area until she reappeared in the Waikato and was refitted as a gunboat

Clutha:

menuThe stern wheeler Tuapeka was built in 1863 and worked the Clutha for 11 years
Her successor was the Balclutha at 120 feet long was powered by the Tuapeka engines. She only lasted a year.
The Paddle Steamer Clutha was locally built and powered by a 'steam plough' engine.
The 'steam plough' appears to have been a dedicated traction engine.. these worked in tandem
each in turn winching the plough across the paddock

The stern wheeler Iona ran from Dunedin and worked the Clutha for two years.
From 1882 to 1939 the Clutha River Board ran the sternwheelers on the Clyde.
The Clyde, last of the Clutha river Steamers was broken up after the Second World War
